| What is an article in the Spanish language?
The article has two functions: It points out the gender and the number of the grammatical elements before which it is placed, as it agrees with them in gender and number; it points out the substantive character of these elements. The articles are always placed before the noun, for example – Los inquietos niños. El ya famoso futbolista.
The masculine article el may indicate also the feminine when the word which determines starts by accented a. – El agua, el alma, el aguíla.
